Simone Veale, MSW Candidate ‘26
Now Accepting Referrals for In Person & Virtual Services at the
Equitable Care Clinic at Obsidian!
Simone Veale (she/her) is one of Obsidian Care Collective’s 2025–2026 Clinical Interns. Simone is currently completing her second and final year of her Master’s in Social Work (MSW) at UNC Chapel Hill and provides sliding-scale services both virtually and in person through the Equitable Care Clinic. She is supervised by J. Louise Newton, MSW, LCSW, SEP, receiving weekly individual and group supervision as part of her advanced clinical practicum.
Simone is spear heading a new service line at Obsidian through the Equitable Care Clinic focused on providing care for and by environment and health researchers who are experiencing extraordinary upheaval in their workplaces. As someone who worked in health research for many years prior to entering graduate school, Simone is informed and attuned to the unique experiences that our esteemed colleagues contend with while working tirelessly towards a healthier and more fulfilling future for us all. We are poised and ready to give back to the people behind the scenes who make our work more impactful. Thank you for your service and we look forward to being a support and resource to you.
Simone brings a warm, collaborative, and reflective approach to sessions, believing that therapy is a space where clients can feel heard, explore patterns, and work toward living in line with their values. Simone views the therapeutic relationship as central to the healing process and strives to create a supportive, judgment-free environment Simone also specializes in providing care in these areas:
adolescents, adults, and couples
anxiety & depression
eating disorders & trauma recovery
life transitions
LGBTQIA+ affirming care
As a queer individual, Simone is committed to supporting LGBTQ+ clients as they explore identity development, navigate family and relationship dynamics, or seek an affirming space to process their experiences.
Simone integrates her person-centered approach to therapy with psychodynamic and somatic informed interventions. She provides psychoeducation to her clients as they learn about how their own experiences of their mental health impacts their daily lives. Simone's work is also grounded in the top two evidence-based modalities as she offers practical strategies that work– Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). She tailors her approach to each client, recognizing that every individual and relationship brings unique strengths and needs.
Before her time at Obsidian, Simone completed her generalist practicum in adult guardianship at Arosa, where she worked closely with older adults and individuals navigating complex health, cognitive, and social challenges. She also brings a strong background in research, having worked on studies with individuals living with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and eating disorders. These experiences inform her ability to approach clinical work with curiosity, empathy, and a systemic lens.
Simone graduated Cum Laude from Williams College with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and Biology. She is expected to complete her MSW at UNC in Spring 2026, with plans to pursue clinical licensure and a career as a psychotherapist working with adults and couples.
Outside of her clinical work, Simone is an avid runner and triathlete. She values movement as a form of self-care and a meditative space, and she hopes to incorporate movement-based approaches into therapeutic practice in the future.
