Rebekah Foster, MSW Clinical Intern

Equitable Care Clinic ‘26-’27 Advanced Clinician in Training:

Rebekah Foster (she/her) is one of Obsidian’s distinguished University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Social Work MSW Clinical Interns. She is actively accepting new clients for individual and couple’s psychotherapy for both in person sessions in our historic downtown Hillsborough offices and virtually across the State of North Carolina. She is supervised by J. Louise Newton, MSW, LCSW, SEP, receiving weekly individual and group supervision as part of her practicum requirements in her final year of graduate-level clinical training.

Before coming to Obsidian, she completed her Bachelor of Arts in Women & Gender Studies as well as Sustainability Studies at the University of Florida in 2015. Prior to graduate school, Rebekah was an environmental educator, community organizer, birth doula, program director, and farmer. In her first year of graduate school, she completed a practicum at Bluestem Conservation Cemetery, where she learned from her fellow practitioners, people at the end-of-life, and nature about how to walk with grief.

Rebekah is interested in looking at the parts of the human experience that are sometimes hard to “figure out”; death, transition and change, sex, and our connections to our bodies. Rebekah came to this work through her own experiences of healing and growth, and carries a belief that therapy should be available to everyone. 

Rebekah works with adults and older adults, and is especially interested in supporting people navigating:

• Grief, loss, and end-of-life (their own or a loved one's)

• Life transitions — relationship endings, becoming a caregiver, or the quieter transitions that come with quarter and midlife

• Couples work

• Sex and sexuality — moving from shame or pain toward pleasure and connection

• Sensory sensitivity (HSPs) and neurodivergence, including ADHD and OCD

• Attachment and family-of-origin patterning

• Disconnection from the body

Rebekah draws from somatics, attachment theory, eco-psychology, psychodynamics and Internal Family System in her approach to therapy. She brings an anti-racist lens to all of her work and welcomes clients of all races, ethnicities, religions and cultural backgrounds. She is trauma-informed, and recognizes queerness in all it’s forms: sexual orientation, gender, relationship & family structure, and other ways of orienting to the world. She sees herself as walking alongside clients, offering tools, support, and honest reflection along the way.

In the room, she brings grounded presence, curiosity, humor, and warmth.

Outside of her work, Rebekah enjoys cooking, gardening and hanging out with her orange cat, Benny.

Fees: As an Advanced Clinician in Training at the Obsidian Equitable Care Clinic, Rebekah offers sessions on the sliding scale rate of $5-$50 per a session. Following your video consultation and upon acceptance onto Rebekah’s case load, you will self select the amount you wish pay based on what feels most sustainable to you, requiring no proof of income.

Session Information: Sessions can occur onsite in our Historic Downtown Hillsborough office or virtually to anyone in the State of North Carolina. Rebekah sees clients Wednesdays-Fridays from now until May 2027. After you submit your inquiry form, Rebekah will reach out to you schedule a free of cost 30-minute video consultation. This will allow you to meet with Rebekah and give you an opportunity to mutually vet one another for goodness of fit. In some instances, prospective clients require a higher level of support than our Advanced Clinicians in Training are able to offer. If this is the case for you, Rebekah & Louise will work diligently with you to get you referred to an appropriate provider.
