Introducing the
Equitable Care Clinic at Obsidian
-
The Equitable Care Clinic at Obsidian is open and actively accepting referrals for new clients who wish to engage in routine psychotherapy but require lower costs associated with their care. Thanks to our partnership with the UNC Chapel Hill School of Social Work, Obsidian is now offering clinical services, provided by clinicians in training, at a sliding scale rate of $5-$50 per session. This service is open to ANY person in North Carolina in need of reduced fee therapy.
J. Louise Newton, MSW, LCSW, SEP & Kade Collins, MSW, LCSW are supervising our clinicians in training. Together, Louise and Kade have been Field Instructors at several graduate programs and most notably the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for a combined 15 years. We can proudly report that the graduate clinic at Obsidian was the most competitive and sought after clinical placement for the ‘25’-26 academic year at UNC Chapel Hill. We are thrilled to have onboarded a new cohort of 3 advanced clinical MSW student interns who are completing their intensive clinical practicum in their final year of graduate school at the Equitable Care Clinic.

The fee structure of the Equitable Care Clinic at Obsidian is based on a ‘Pay What You Can’ model with the fee scale ranging from $5-$50 per session. You can self select a fee amount that feels sustainable to you and we will not request any verification documentation related to your income or expenses.
These significantly reduced fees apply only to our clinicians in training and allow us to provide our clinicians and clients alike with the substantive clinical care and supervision that Obsidian is known for. You will meet with your provider either virtually on a fully HIPAA protected video platform or in one of our delightful downtown historic Hillsborough offices just as all clients at Obsidian do.
We so look forward to meeting you and joining you on your journey. Please reach out today.

In response to and support of you, our beloved colleagues in the health and environmental research fields, a new service line has been created at Obsidian through the Equitable Care Clinic focused on providing psychotherapy for researchers who are experiencing extraordinary upheaval in their fields and workplaces. Please note that these services are open and available to all folks in your sector including but not limited to information technology professionals, administrative and fundraising workers, as well as general support staff.
Two of our clinicians in training, Hannah and Simone, worked in health research for many years prior to entering graduate school. By thoughtfully integrating their professional experiences as research assistants with their emerging clinical acumen, Simone and Hannah are informed and attuned to the unique challenges that you, our esteemed colleagues, contend with while working tirelessly towards a healthier and more fulfilling future for us all. We are poised to provide you with new experiential data—the felt sense of being cared for in a model you have helped sustain. Thank you for your service an contributions.
